Free Web Traffic Or Paid Web Traffic – Pros and Cons

Free Web Traffic Or Paid Web Traffic – Pros and Cons

If you are asked to choose between paid traffic and free traffic, which one will you choose? Do you really have tо pick one over the other?

One of the most intense debates when we are talking about website traffic, is the one between paid and free traffic. On one side are the content marketing gurus and the social media experts, which insist that the best way to go for online marketing is free traffic. On other hand, there are many supporters of paid traffic who prefer this method because it is scalable and hence better for your business.

But which one is better?

While both sides have very solid arguments, the truth is neither is better than the other one. Both of the methods have their own pros and cons which is what every marketer should take the time to look into.

Paid Traffic Pros

There are many online marketers who have built their business and found success through the use of paid traffic. For these people, some of the main advantages are listed below:

  • Scalable
  • Faster and quicker
  • Quicker Tests and offers can be done
  • More targeted

One of the biggest advantages of paid traffic is its ability to provide results faster. You can run an ad campaign now and expect the results in as little as a couple of hours. If the campaign is done right, there is a chance that you can even gain leads and opt-ins on the following day.

Speedy results are for sure one of the main benefits of paid traffic. Of course, if you want to get the right kind of results, you should implement the right campaign which is congruent with your product and or service. And in case you are new in the field of internet marketing, here are some of the options that you should look into:

  • Solo ads
  • Banner ads
  • Pay per click social
  • Pay per click search
  • Paid Traffic Cons

While it has many advantages, paid traffic also has some downsides. At the top of the cons list is unsurprisingly the money matter. This fact makes it a bit risky. If you are a newbie to the marketing world you should approach paid traffic with extra caution. Even better, it would be to study the method thoroughly before running any ads. If you dive in without much knowledge it may cost you more than you expected. Testing is highly advisable.

Free Traffic Pros

As the name suggests, probably one of the biggest pros of free traffic is that it is free. There are no risks involved or any additional expenses that you have to worry about. You can mess up, learn from your mistake and get better over time. Other advantages of this method include being able to leave campaigns alone and having the potential of on-going free traffic once you have managed to establish a presence online.

When talking about free traffic, the two most common types:

  • Content marketing
  • Social media

Both of these options allow marketers to draw traffic to their own websites without additional costs. Social media allows you to connect and market your products thanks to websites like Facebook, Twitter, Google+ and Instgram. Content marketing, on the other hand, is all about producing content for your blog, YouTube channel or other similar mediums, including article sites.

Another benefit is also being able to leverage the task by hiring writers to provide you with content on a regular basis.

Free Traffic Cons

As with paid traffic, free traffic also has its own downsides. As much as you win with the free aspect, there are some cons that come with it as well.

  • It takes more time to attract significant traffic
  • Usually it is not scalable
  • Not effective for testing new offers or launches

Free traffic, unlike paid which delivers speedy results, will take some time to generate results. You will need to learn a couple of different strategies in order to make it work. A great place to start is The Free Traffic Guide. Check it out here:

Even if there are other marketers who insist on choosing one over the other, you are not obliged to follow their footsteps. The best approach would be to go for a balanced one. For example try paid advertising combined with content marketing via your own blog or social media. This is the free approach that many have taken, and it gives you daily free traffic from your content marketing activities, and whenever you need a little boost, you run some ads. If you manage to keep it going this way, you will have enough leads and opt-ins to grow your business in no time.
